This panoramic estate is located just north of Falces and was founded in the late 1990s by a group of local businessmen who bought a beautiful windswept valley, planted it from scratch, constructed a fabulously modern, utilitarian winery to vinify their wonderful fruit, bought only the most impeccable oak (primarily from Demptos), use it judiciously, and have been going from strength to strength ever since.
Oddly for such a large establishment it always seems very quiet - its main inhabitants the modest but supremely capable winemaker Kepa; shy partner Jose-Mari who loves nothing better than to dive into the kitchen and produce marvellously flavoursome meals (Navarra is Spain's vegetable garden); towering white-moustachioed José Antonio who knows every nook and cranny of the 400 hectares plant by plant; and Export Manager José Antonio Pellicer who calmly and good-naturedly looks after literally the whole world.
And the wines! White is limited to a Sauvignon (Orchidea) that will only be ‘officially’ Sauvignon next year - four quite different tanks, currently homogenized into a single wine but hopefully 4 wines as of next year; a vibrant Rosado (Mediodía) that the German market keeps trying to deprive us of; and in reds - a delicious black fruit scented French oaked Cab/Merlot (Norte); a US oaked attractively baked, spicy, forthright Garnacha/Syrah (Sur); unctuous blackcurrant vanilla tinged Crianza (400) made from Cabernet, Merlot and Graciano with 15 months in Allier; and finally Altos de Inurrieta - a dark, elegantly cedary Cab/Merlot from their highest slopes, with 15 months in Nevers.
