Winery Info:

Richard Sanz is one of Spains most talented wine makers; and this comes as no surprise given the familys long local history. Having been virtually weaned on wine and in the thick of things (the handson Sanz family have for many years also had interests large and small in neighbouring Toro and nearby Ribera Duero) since an early age he honed his practical skills in Bordeaux and his theory in Madrid and was for more than a decade the winemaking dynamo at father Antonios highly successful and influential Cuevas de Castilla. Three years ago however and still only in his early thirties together with viticulturalist brother Marco and sister Sandra

Vineyard information:

In the heart of the Rueda DO the Sanzs maintain scrupulously clean and well arranged vines of the key white varieties of Sauvignon Blanc Viura and increasingly Verdejo. It the Verdejo that Richard sees as the most promising for future wine development.

Food Pairing:

Grilled fish Pasta Shellfish Grilled chicken or Tapas. Will also accompany a good flavourful salad such as nicoise. The Spanish do their own version (and possibly like other well known French dishes may even have invented it). With gem lettuce asparagus tuna onions tomatoes and cucumber drizzled with plenty of olive oil and a good vinegar.

Abv:
12.5%
Grape Variety:

60% Verdejo 25% Viura 15% Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Note:

It is a lightbodied wine which exhibits fresh gooseberry and grapefruit notes along with hints of lemon zest and melon. Flavours: pear citrus and a touch of honey. It is a clean and easy to drink wine but with complexity.
